Question by Shai: Bad back pain after shoveling snow, should I hold out on exercise?
I had to shovel my drive-way on Wednesday when we had the huge snow. I woke up the next day with really bad back pain all over. I’m on a diet and have been exercising at least every other day. Before I woke up with the extreme back pain, on Wednesday night I did a 30 min. Jillian Michaels work-out and could barely get through it due to weakness. Should I give it a rest until my back pain settles?
Best answer:
Answer by Me I would do some stretching and give my back a break. When it gets better I would do back exercises to help in future.

AskTheTrainer.com Personal Trainer Michael Behnken, MS, NASM-CPT-PES, CSCS Stability ball reverse low back extensions are an exercise you should only do if you are advised by a qualified professional. The most important aspect is the contraction of your glutes as your raise your heels up. Your glutes are the prime mover for this exercise. Your lower back is just a stabilizer. If you only feel this in the low back you may have muscle imbalances. These will not rid you of lower back fat, but they will strengthen your lower back. Remember to reiterate for the 10000000th time. Resistance exercises DO NOT burn fat off of the muscle you are exercising. AskTheTrainer.com Video Rating: 0 / 5

She is an elite rider with a Masters degree in Physiotherapy and a Pilates instructor. She combines her wealth of knowledge into this unique program to train riders at every level. This program is about training the rider, using specific Pilates exercises to improve core stability and riding posture. Her program is sport specific and the exercises target the riding posture. A rider will learn muscle control and skills to achieve a great riding posture. The simple steps will teach a rider to self test and then correct any muscle imbalances they have. A rider will learn about their own posture problems, first poor posture on the ground will reflect in the riding posture in the saddle. The key theme of the program is core stability and abdominal control, and how to apply this function to gain independent muscle control in the saddle. Pilates is the single most important exercise for the rider, but must be taught by a professional.
Those who have taken this horse riding exercise program cannot believe how simple it is and the wonderful improvement in their riding skills. This program is effective for riders at any level; even Olympic riders benefit and learn more about themselves as a rider. Every rider will learn about their posture and train it for riding. The program includes specific stretching techniques to increase lower back and pelvic flexibility. A rider requires great strength and flexibility in order to stay in tune with their horse. This program has simple step by step points to follow, to achieve just that. The bonus will include less back pain and or headaches, many riders suffer from these aliments due to poor riding posture.
The program is a complete package offering rider specific training for riding as well as personal posture management. Once mastered a rider will achieve excellent balance and be able to maintain a deep independent seat at all paces. A rider will be still at the sit trot, an extremely difficult skill to master. Your riding will be pleasant and skillful, you will be in tune with your horse and able to apply aids he will respond to, without bouncing. Your horse will have a natural free movement again uninhibited by your stiffness and interference. Riding will be great fun and less stressful.
“Applied Posture Riding” is for every rider because this program is rider specific. Every rider has an imbalance that can be fixed and therefore improve their riding. This simple program will allow any rider to find their imbalance and correct it to become a better rider. To learn more, visit http://www.applied-posture-riding.com.
